1) Who can attend Westside Extension classes?
Anyone can attend a Westside Extension class. Unless specified in the course description, classes for adults are designed for those age 18 or older. College for Kids classes will specify what age or grade levels are suitable. We do not permit anyone, including spouses, friends or children to audit a class – you must enroll prior to attending.
2) Will I get grades or college credits for a Westside Extension class?
No, Westside Extension classes are fee-based, not-for-credit classes. There are no grades or transcripts and college credits cannot be granted.
3) How do I register for a class?
There are 5 easy ways to register for a Westside Extension class:
• Online – Complete a student profile, add to your cart all the classes you wish to take, and pay online with your credit card or debit card.
• By Mail – Complete a Registration Form and send it with your payment to: Westside Extension, 9000 Overland Ave., Culver City, CA 90230.
Please write clearly. If you pay by check, please make it payable to WLAC Community Services. Checks will be processed as an electronic funds transfer (eft) and posted on the same day. If you pay by credit card or debit card be sure to include your card number, expiration date (month and year) and signature. If you do not have an email address and wish to receive a confirmation receipt, then please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
• By Phone – Call us at (310) 287-4475. Be sure to have your credit or debit card handy along with information on the classes you wish to take.
• By Fax – Complete a registration form and fax it to us at (310) 287-4258. Please write clearly and be sure to include the number and expiration date (month and year) for your credit or debit card, along with your signature.
• Walk-in – Drop by our offices on the West Los Angeles College Campus. We are located at the far end of Parking Lot 5. Click on Contact Us above for current office hours or Map & Directions.
We accept cash, checks, money orders, gift certificates, debit cards and credit cards (Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card; sorry, no American Express).
Please note that payment is required to register for a class – we cannot reserve spaces in a class without payment.
4) Can I register on the first day of class?
Yes, as long as space is available. However, we strongly encourage you to register in advance. Many of our classes are very popular and fill up quickly, so we suggest you register as early as possible once you know your availability. Also, if you wait until the day of class you run the risk of finding out that the class you wanted may have been cancelled due to low enrollment. Registering in advance also saves you time. Online registration closes one day before a class begins, so you will need to phone, fax or walk in last-minute registrations. If you are registering the day of class, please allow 30 minutes for walk-in registration – especially on Saturday mornings.
5) What is the refund policy?
Refund or transfer requests may be granted ONLY if you notify the Westside Extension Office AT LEAST 5 DAYS IN ADVANCE that you wish to cancel a class. Refunds, transfers or credits CANNOT be granted once class begins. A full refund will be given when a class is canceled by Westside Extension. Refunds or credits WILL NOT be issued for absences or late registrations. If you miss some meetings of a class, you cannot make them up in another class. Notification of cancellation may be done by phone, in person, by mail or email. Refunds or transfers must be processed by the Extension office – you cannot do it yourself online. A $10 processing charge will be deducted for each class refund or transfer, except for classes canceled by Westside Extension. If you paid by credit card, your account will be credited. If you paid by cash, check or money order, you will receive a check refund (allow 4 weeks for processing). A credit toward other Westside Extension classes may be issued in lieu of a refund if you wish. Returned checks will be subject to a $20 handling charge.
6) Will I receive a class confirmation receipt in the mail?
We will send you electronic receipts by email. If you do not have an email address, we can send you a class confirmation receipt by mail. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Note that you can access your confirmation receipts at any time using our online system. Sign in and select Current Registrations along the left menu. Find your class and click on Registration Confirmation to view your receipt. To see a listing of your payments, select My Transactions.
7) What do I need to bring to class/to whom do I pay the materials fee?
Bring the items or materials specified in the class description and on your receipt. Materials fees are payable in class to the teacher at the first class meeting. If cash or exact change is specified, please have that ready. If there is a material or supply list, you can get that from a link on the class description or from our office. Allow enough time to order any required books or pick up required materials before your class.
8) Why do classes get canceled?
Classes generally get canceled when there’s not enough students enrolled. Decisions to cancel a class are usually made about 2-3 days prior to the first class, so we advise you to register early and not wait until the last minute. If Westside Extension cancels a class, you will receive a full refund of your registration fees.

11) What about parking?
Student and visitor parking are available in the newly constructed 1,000-car parking structure, Lot 5 off Freshman Dr., and Lot 4A near the PEC Complex. Parking is enforced 7 days a week; you must display a valid West L.A. College parking permit. Westside Extension students may purchase a daily parking permit for $2 (bring two bills) from yellow machines located in each of these lots OR purchase a $20 semester permit (cash only) from the Extension office during open hours. There are metered parking spaces in Lot 5 (maximum 2 hours) and on F Street above Lot 5 (maximum 4 hours) at a rate of 25 cents per half hour. Handicapped parking is available in all student and staff lots—a valid handicapped placard must be displayed. Due to construction, there is no parking on Freshman or Sophomore Drives.
12) Where can I find the Westside Extension office?
Westside Extension moved offices in early 2009 and we are now located at the far end of Parking Lot 5 on the West Los Angeles College campus. 13) What are your office hours?
Our office hours vary during the year, depending on whether classes are in session. Generally we are open 9-5 Mondays-Thursdays, 9-3:30 on Fridays and 8:30-11 on Saturdays. When classes are in session, we extend our office hours on Mondays-Thursdays to 9-7 and on Saturdays to 8-1. 14) Are your classes handicapped-accessible?
West Los Angeles College is built on the side of a hill, so if you have mobility issues we recommend that you speak with us before registering. Currently we have on-campus shuttle service to take students from the lower parking lots to designated stops on the upper portion of the campus. But the shuttle does not provide door-to-door service. Almost all of our classrooms are handicapped-accessible, but a few only have steps and no access ramps. If this would pose a problem, call our office at (310) 287-4475 before registering to discuss classroom access and allow us time to try and accommodate you.
15) What buses come to the campus?
Culver City Bus has two lines that stop on campus regularly. Line #3 runs from Century City in the north to Fox Hills Mall in the south. Line #4 runs between Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue to Fox Hills Mall. Click here for more information and the bus schedule. The campus bus stop is located in Student Parking Lot 5.

Our adult classes are are designed for those age 18 or older, but younger students are welcome in some select classes. This information will be noted in the course description. The decision on whether to allow students under the age of 18 depends upon the subject matter and appropriateness of the class and the instructor.

Yes. Simply click on the Buy eGift Card link on the top of most Course or Class listings pages.
