Who We Are
Westside Extension assists with the college's mission by providing a wide variety of short-term community services classes and contract training for the community, business, and industry. The program offers lifelong learning opportunities and serves all ages from young toddlers to seniors. Westside Extension is self-supporting and operates much like a college within a college, developing classes, processing student registrations, hiring instructors, publishing class schedules, and running classes. Extension's contract education program oversees fee-based training programs for schools, companies, and organizations.

Westside Extension is the primary vehicle for satisfying the college's mission of lifelong learning and serving the community. The program serves populations not served by traditional college programs, thereby increasing the college's diversity. Extension offers short-term workforce training programs that help individuals train for a new career or improve their job skills for current careers, along with classes for personal growth and development.

We offer upwards of 500 classes each semester and serve approximately 3,500 students per semester.  Some of our classes are online, and some of our activity classes are held off campus at partner facilities.

Class & Refund Policies
Westside Extension is a self-supporting (not funded by taxpayers) program.  To ensure a quality program, the following policies have been established.  Classes may be cancelled due to low enrollment; we will make every effort to alert all registered students in advance.  For safety and liability reasons, no one—including spouses, friends or children—may attend any class without first enrolling.  Students whose conduct is detrimental (including, but not limited to, dishonesty, disruption of classes, theft or property damage and willful disobedience) may be removed from class and/or denied enrollment.  Please call our office at 310-287-4475 if you have any questions.

Cancellation/Transfer Policy
PHLEBOTOMY, WEST LANGUAGE ACADEMY, and HEALTH INSURANCE BILLING, CODING & CLAIMS HAVE SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT REFUND POLICIES, SO READ THEM CAREFULLY BEFORE ENROLLING.

Standard Policy
Refunds, credits, and transfers will be granted ONLY if you notify the Westside Extension office AT LEAST 5 DAYS BEFORE CLASS BEGINS that you wish to make a change - so please choose your classes carefully. Refunds, transfers or credits CANNOT be granted once class begins, or for absences or late registrations. Missed class meetings cannot be made up in another class. Refunds and transfers must be processed by the Extension office - you cannot do it yourself online.

Notification of cancellation may be by phone, mail, email, or in person. A $10 processing charge will be deducted for each class cancellation/change. If you paid by credit card, your account will be credited. If you paid by cash, or money order, you will receive a check refund (allow 2-3 weeks for processing). A credit toward other Westside Extension classes may be issued in lieu of a refund if you wish. Returned checks will be subject to an additional $20 handling charge. Of course, no processing fee will be charged when a class is cancelled by Westside Extension.

Material Fees Policy
Some Westside Extension classes have material fees for additional supplies or books. These fees are for items provided by the instructor as a convenience to you. To save class time and ensure the integrity of the student/teacher relationship, such fees are no longer collected in class. They will be collected at time of registration or you will be directed to places you can purchase directly. Westside Extension and the LACCD are held harmless for any disputes arising out of any material fees transaction between you and the instructor.

Handicapped Accessibility
West Los Angeles College is built on the side of a hill, so if you have mobility issues we recommend that you speak with us before registering.
