Bookkeeping Plus

An introduction to basic bookkeeping concepts for those with no prior knowledge of accounting, and a great foundation for learning QuickBooks accounting software. Learn Excel/spreadsheeting basics that are useful – and used – for bookkeeping. Also learn accounting terminologies and concepts, generally-accepted accounting principles including: the accounting equation, debits and credits, financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, owner’s equity, and cash flow), budgeting, and financial ratios. There will also be a discussion of ethics. Basic math and computer knowledge are recommended before taking this course.
  

Prerequisites and Requirements

Must have internet connection, web browser, and Windows/Mac computer, Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheeting program, and Adobe Reader. Prerequisite: a basic understanding of personal computers & Windows. Class fee includes packet of exercises for at-home practice.
 

Registration and Enrollment

This course is offered remotely via live videoconferencing through Zoom.  The class is offered three times a year (Spring, Summer, and Fall), and runs for 4 weeks (meeting two times a week).  Class cost: $250.  West Los Angeles College offers this program through Extension, and it does not transcript or qualify for financial aid.  However, you may qualify to have the training paid for through your local WorkSource Center if you qualify.  Find your local WorkSource Center here.
 

Bookkeeping Plus & QuickBooks

Bookkeeping Plus & QuickBooks is an introduction to basic bookkeeping concepts for those with no prior knowledge of accounting, and a great foundation for learning QuickBooks accounting software. Learn Excel/spreadsheeting basics that are useful – and used – for bookkeeping. Also learn accounting terminologies and concepts, generally-accepted accounting principles including: the accounting equation, debits and credits, financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, owner’s equity, and cash flow), budgeting, and financial ratios. There will also be a discussion of ethics. In QuickBooks Online, learn about chart of accounts, creating new accounts, items and services, vendors, customers, creating and paying a bill, creating an invoice, creating financial reports, backing up files, and restoring files. Increase basic knowledge and learn QuickBooks Desktop features, which include the following: starting your own company profile, banking and reconciliation, importing and exporting lists from Excel, formatting reports, formatting general documents with company logos, and introduction to payroll. This class will help prepare students for the Intuit exam.

Requirements: Must have internet connection, web browser and Windows 8.1/10 computer, Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheeting program, and Adobe Reader. Processor: 2.4 GHz minimum. RAM: 4GB minimum, 8GB Recommend, 2.5GB of disk space (additional required for data files).
